1. This scheme is for general purpose credit - entrepreneurial and consumption credit

August 5, 1998 - The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme was introduced for issue of Kisan Credit Cards to farmers on the basis of their holdings for uniform adoption by the banks so that farmers may use them to readily purchase agriculture inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides etc. and draw cash for their production needs.
3. The scheme was further extended for the investment credit requirement of farmers viz. allied and non-farm activities in the year 2004.
4. The scheme provides broad guidelines to banks for operationalizing the KCC scheme. Implementing banks will have the discretion to adopt the same to suit institution/location specific requirements
5. Mar 3, 2001 - RBI advised banks to provide insurance package to all KCC holders.

1. The scheme has been running since 2006-07. Under this, the farmers can avail short-term crop loans at 7% rate of interest (after 2% interest subvention), and an additional 3% as PRI, with a limit of Rs 3 lakh per farmer.
2. *By April-2020, short-term crop loans will become part of KCC. Hence this scheme is mentioned in KCC.*
17. [May 27, 2019] - In a letter to all Commercial Banks, RBI informed about the Government’s approval to extend the benefits of Interest Subvention at 2% and Prompt Repayment Incentive (PRI) at 3% to fisheries and animal husbandry farmers to meet their working capital needs under the KCC scheme. The limit was 3 lakh per farmer for Agriculture (short-term crop loan) and 2 lakh per farmer for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries (AHDF).

Accordingly, RBI announced the government has decided to continue the availability of 2% IS and 3% PRI to farmers for the extended period of repayment upto 31.05.2020 or date of repayment, whichever is earlier, for short term crop loans upto ₹3 lakh per farmer which have become due between March 01, 2020 and May 31, 2020.
23. May 23, 2020 - The extend moratorium (for all lending institutions) was extended by another three months, i.e., upto August 31, 2020.

34. **Current Status**
1. As of 2026, lending rate to farmers is 7% after the interest subvention of 1.5 % per annum which is offered to the lending institutions viz. Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Private Sector Commercial Banks (in respect of loans given by their rural and semi-urban branches only), SFBs (small Finance Banks, and PACS). The additional PRI is 3%.
2. The KCC scheme is offered by all Commercial Banks (including RRBs, but excluding Local Area Banks, Payments Banks), Small finance Banks, and Rural Cooperative Banks (State Co-operative Banks/DCCBs).
3. Commercial Banks, RRBs, Small Finance Banks and Cooperatives.
4. KCC is available for short-term crop loans, short-term loans for allied activities, post harvest, personal consumption, and more, in the form of a composite facility with a tenure of six years.
5. IS and PRI is applicable for short terms loans (or as applicable from time to time)
6. The KCC scheme card is an ATM enabled RuPay Card
