The [Development Research Group (DRG)](https://rbi.org.in/Scripts/Occas_DRG_Studies.aspx) was constituted in the RBI as part of the Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR) in November 1991, with the objective of undertaking quick and effective policy-oriented research, backed by strong analytical and empirical formulations, on subjects of current interest. 2. It was constituted in the Reserve Bank of India in its Department of Economic Analysis and Policy (DEAP). 3. In January 1982, with enormous expansion of Bank’s activities, the Economics Department was reorganised as Department of Economic Analysis and Policy (DEAP) to provide a better focus on economic issues while maintaining a viable size. 4. Its objective is to undertake quick and effective policy-oriented research, backed by strong analytical and empirical basis on subjects of current interest. 5. The DRG studies are the outcome of collaborative efforts between experts from outside the Reserve Bank and the pool of research talents within the Bank. 6. These studies are reIeased for wider circulation with a view to generating constructive discussion among the professional economists and policy makers. 7. **Department of Economic and Policy Research** 1. A knowledge centre for macroeconomic policy oriented research, the [Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR)](https://www.rbi.org.in/commonperson/English/scripts/Departments.aspx#:~:text=Top-,Department%20of%20Economic%20and%20Policy%20Research,-A%20knowledge%20centre) of the Reserve Bank is entrusted with the task of providing research inputs and management information system (MIS) services for policy-related decision making. The research agenda of the department primarily focuses on macroeconomic challenges facing the Indian economy and covers multi-dimensional issues relating to monetary policy, growth and inflation dynamics, financial markets, forecasting of macroeconomic variables, banking sector, financial stability and external sector management. 2. The Development Research Group (DRG) was constituted in the Reserve Bank (hereafter the ‘Bank’) as part of the Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR) in November 1991, with the objective of undertaking quick and effective policy-oriented research, backed by strong analytical and empirical formulations, on subjects of current interest. 2. Through the DRG, the Bank provides financial support to individual researchers/experts and universities/research institutions to facilitate theoretical and quantitative research and teaching/training in economics, banking, finance and other subjects of interest to the Bank.
